Cavernous Hemangioma of the Skull Presenting with Subdural Hematoma

چکیده
Cavernous hemangioma of the calvarium is a very rare disease, and patients usually present with headaches or a visible skull deformity. Few reports of patients presenting with intradiploic or epidural hemorrhages are found in the literature. No cases of an intradural hemorrhage from a cavernous hemangioma of the skull have been reported to date. We present the case of a 50-year-old male with a symptomatic subdural hematoma resulting from a cavernous hemangioma of the calvarium that hemorrhaged and eroded through the inner table of the skull and dura. The patient went to the operating room for evacuation of the subdural hematoma and resection of the calvarial lesion. Postoperatively, the patient had an immediate relief of his symptoms and did not have a clinical or radiological recurrence. Calvarial cavernous hemangiomas should be considered in the differential diagnosis of non-traumatic subdural hematomas. Additionally, skull lesions that present with intracranial hemorrhages must be identified and resected at the time of hematoma evacuation to prevent recurrences.

متن کاملMultifocal Cavernous Hemangiomas of the Skull Presenting as Lytic Skull Lesions
Multifocal cavernous haemangioma of the skull presenting as lytic lesions are a rare entity with only a few case reports till date. Haemangioma are benign lesions, well known to occur in the spine and are of the capillary type whereas the haemangioma that occur in the skull are of the cavernous type and are usually solitary. Here we present a case of multifocal cavernous haemangioma of the skul...
متن کاملCongenital cavernous hemangioma of the skull.
Calvarial cavernous hemangiomas (CHs) comprise 0.2% of benign neoplasms of the skull and frequently occur in the second and fourth decades. Their occurrence in infancy is extremely rare and they can initially be misdiagnosed as cephal hematoma or caput succadeneum that can occur due to the birth trauma, but trauma is not a predisposing factor. CT scan is more helpful than other ...
متن کاملCerebral venous sinus thrombosis associated with systemic multiple hemangiomas manifesting as chronic subdural hematoma--case report.
A 35-year-old male was admitted with headache, nausea, and vomiting persisting for 2 days. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a left chronic subdural hematoma. Cerebral angiography demonstrated cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). He had presented with a subcutaneous mass involving the neck at age 2 years, which was shown to be a cavernous angioma, and thereafter shown signs of consumptive c...
متن کاملTumefactive fibroinflammatory lesion of the neck with progressive invasion of the meninges, skull base, orbit, and brain.
SUMMARY Tumefactive fibroinflammatory lesions of the head and neck are rare. CNS involvement has not been reported. We present a histologically proven case of a tumefactive fibroinflammatory lesion that originated in the left side of the neck and progressed over 2 years to involve the meninges, the cavernous sinuses, the right temporal lobe, and the right orbit. The lesion caused destruction of...
